House Republicans Pass Bill to Stop Biden From Defunding Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers

The House of Representatives on Thursday moved to block the Biden administration from restricting funds for pregnancy resource centers. 

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, introduced to the House by Rep. Michele Fischbach, R-MN, would block a provision in a proposed rule that prohibits states from giving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding to pregnancy centers.

The bill, otherwise known as H.R. 6918, passed in the House with a vote of 214-208. It now goes to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it will face stiff opposition.

“Pregnancy resource centers are an important alternative for expectant mothers that don’t offer abortion services and support the life of both the mother and unborn child,” said Chairman Christopher Smith’s office in a press release following the decision.

Smith called out the Biden administration for “hypocrisy” in his opening remarks for “claim[ing] to support a woman’s right to choose her own health care,” while simultaneously limiting the choice of life.
